Film, Art, Migration and the Disenfranchised | Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen
In his gripping and moving talk Nikolaj explores his work with migrants and disenfranchised communities and shares his experience of a project which, due to forces beyond his control, was forced on an unexpected journey of its own.
Nikolaj Bendix Skyum Larsen is a Danish artist and documentary film-maker based in Paris. In the past 10 years Larsen’s work has mainly focused on migration and disenfranchised communities. He exhibits his work internationally in museums and galleries such as Tate Modern, London, Sharjah Biennial, UAE and SALT Galata, Istanbul. Although Larsen’s work deals with complex political subject matter, he always explores it from the point of view of his protagonists, which gives it a very human feel. Most of Larsen’s work is commission-based which gives him time to get beyond the surface of the context within which he works.
