The problem with the generation gap is the gap. It’s like a game of snakes and ladders – but there are far more snakes. That’s in keeping with the roots of the game in India in the 2nd century where it was a moral teaching tool, with more snakes (sins) than ladders. Parents and teachers would warn children of the dangers of slipping all the way down to the beginning, through falling pray to sins.

In our lives now, parents sit at the top of the ladders, and children at the bottom of the snakes. Should parents slide down snakes to be with their children? No.

Or should they put ladders everywhere to help them up? Kids don’t want to be carried up, they want to climb up. We need more ladders, please, far more than snakes.

Whenever you find a snake, replace it with a brand new, shiny ladder.
